Extracurricular activities for current students at Mammolina Montessori
Chess
Mondays from 16:00 to 17:00 for Primary students and CH students born in 2020
Through chess, children develop valuable skills such as problem solving, aerospace ability, planning/forecasting, reading, and math. With over 500 students in 25 schools in Valencia, Escuela De Ajedrez Pensamiento Audaz (EDAPA) is dedicated to teaching chess to children in primary and secondary schools of all levels. EDAPA has created its own textbooks, puzzles, cards, games, etc. to use alongside traditional chess games in its classes. These materials help make the classes very social, dynamic, and engaging. These classes have been a success at our school with children of all levels, from beginners to regional champions.

Art & Creativity
Tuesdays from 16:00 to 17:15 for Primary students and CH students born in 2020
In Art & Creativity, children will explore art in a free, fun, and hands-on way. It’s a space where we not only draw and paint, but also explore different materials, textures, techniques, and formats — including small crafts and collaborative projects.
Through play and creative expression, participants develop their imagination, boost their self-esteem, and learn to communicate visually in a relaxed, judgment-free environment.
In class, we’ll work with materials such as pencils, crayons, tempera paints, colored paper, watercolors, felt, collage, and much more — encouraging both individual and group work.
Why is it important?
Between the ages of 6 and 12, children are at a key stage for developing creativity, which helps them come up with new ideas, face challenges, and
better manage their emotions.
The activity is led by Julia Muñoz, a Fine Arts graduate and professional graphic designer and illustrator. Julia has worked with both private companies and as a freelancer. She currently combines her artistic background with social projects and children's art classes.
Conditions:
Minimum 5 students to start the activity
Materials Fee (one time payment): €35 (non-refundable)

Theater and Puppetry
Wednesdays from 16:00 to 17:15 for Primary students and CH students born in 2020 (Group 1)
This workshop, which is mainly held outdoors, aims to develop all kinds of communicative skills through theatre and its different variants, with special emphasis on visual theatre (puppets, shadow theatre, object and material theatre) due to its universality in language and to delve deeper into the poetics and innate imagination of children.
The approach of this workshop is to guide the students as if they were embarking on a magical journey, where play serves as the primary tool and wellspring of inspiration. In this way, students will not only grasp theatrical concepts but also enhance both individual and collective self-esteem, fostering group cohesion and confidence. As well, diverse ways of conveying ideas and emotions will be explored, all while having fun. These experiences directly and positively influence students' emotional management abilities and set the stage for healthy relationships with their environment, attentive listening, and respect.
Theatre enhances multiple values and helps us to understand ourselves, but it also allows us to work transversally on aspects such as costumes, music, writing, creating stage designs or lighting, uncovering multiple hidden talents. For its part, the puppet is a channel and a first-rate pedagogical tool on which to pour out what would otherwise be difficult for us, thus blurring all kinds of barriers that we previously thought impossible to overcome. The plastic and manual component when building our puppets develops motor and concentration skills while developing the symbolic universe of each one. Although our main objective is play, it will help in the creation of small works that we can enjoy as a family.
The director and professor Nelo Sebastián, is an actor, puppet maker, educator, musician, and poet. He's the driving force behind Vudú Teatro, his own theater company, and regularly collaborates with others throughout Europe. With a rich background, Nelo has always been keen on sharing his knowledge. He's crafted an engaging path through various workshops and projects like "mitología de barrio," "tras la sombra del objeto," and "tu universo poético." These workshops have unfolded in schools, associations, and a range of NGOs. Notably, his work has gained recognition from esteemed institutions like the University of Valencia and UNIMA International.
The company includes other actors and actresses with extensive experience in the field of theatre and teaching with children and who, depending on the formation of the groups, will assist by giving classes or substitute if the organisation chart so requires (We will duly inform and provide the CV of the support teacher, if necessary, once the groups are closed).
