SEWING, KNITTING AND CRAFTS

TUESDAY 16:00 to 17:00
Primary school children have the manual dexterity to knit, sew by hand, and even work a sewing machine. It is a great age to learn these lifelong practical skills, as well as turn their imaginative ideas into reality. Each week children will practice crafting and creating projects challenging their fine motor skills and expressing their creativity and individuality.  Projects during class include following pattern instructions, selecting fabrics, coordinating colors and patterns, measuring, cutting, knitting, felting, gluing, paper-mache etc. Our teacher, Jaimie Trepanier was inspired to sew

by her grandmother and is a self-taught knitter and has designed and created costumes and sets for ballet productions, as well as children’s costumes and clothing.

Conditions: Minimum: 4 children to initiate the activity, Max: 6 children

Materials needed: Most materials provided, special projects may require parental purchase.

DANCE

WEDNESDAY 16:00 to 17:00

“Dance embodies one of our most primal relationships to the universe. It is pre-verbal, beginning before words can be formed. It is innate in children before they possess command over language and is evoked when thoughts or emotions are too powerful for words to contain.” “Philosophy Underlying the Standards for Dance in Early Childhood”

As an introduction to various dance styles from ballet to jazz to musical theater, this class will get boys and girls “moving to the beat” and exploring new ways to express themselves through movement.  Dance increases flexibility, physical strength, stamina, improves rhythm, coordination and kinesthetic memory.

Jaimie Trepanier, a professional dancer, choreographer, and teacher, studied ballet at the National Ballet School of Canada in Toronto, Marygrove College in Detroit, and the Interlochen Center for the Arts.  Prior to moving to Spain, she was an adjunct faculty member at Wayne State University in Detroit, Michigan. In Spain, she taught at the Centro de Danza Mari Cruz Alcalá where she prepared students for the Royal Academy of Dance ballet exams, and for Arte Libera, in Paterna. She is also trained in Stott Pilates.
